The Alentejo was once again the
most awarded portuguese region in the Wines of Portugal Challenge at the first awards gala held in the Alentejo.
The 2017 edition took place last friday in Arraiolos with the presence of the Secretary of State for Agriculture and Food, Luís Medeiros Vieira, and the jury was composed of more than 100 national and international experts, and awarded a
total of 341 medals: 30 in the Category Great Gold, 121 Gold and 190 Silver.
As in previous editions the 2017 Portuguese Wine Competition had a first phase, held at the CNEMA in Santarém, with technical tasting sessions, during which each wine was evaluated blindly by a jury composed of six qualified which at least two are of foreign nationality.
After this phase the Grand Jury, composed this year by international experts such as Evan Goldstein (USA), Dirceu Vianna Junior (Brazil and United Kingdom), Hiroshi Ishida (Japan), Sarah Ahmed (United Kingdom) and Bento Amaral and Luís Lopes representing Portugal, chose the great winners of the Wines of Portugal Challenge, awarding the Great Gold and Best of the year medals.
The Wines of Portugal Challenge is increasingly becoming a meeting point and exchange of experiences between national and international producers and specialists and a barometer of the bet made in the country for the production of quality wine with a view to its affirmation in the markets Exports as products of excellence.
