Alentejo welcomes agreement between China and the European Union that protects the region's wine
The Alentejo Regional Winegrowing Commission (CVRA) applauds the trade agreement signed this Tuesday, September 15th, between China and the 27 member countries of the European Union (EU), which gives protection to 100 European geographical indications and 100 Chinese. Alentejo wines are among the six Portuguese delicacies on the list.
The agreement concluded ensures that consumers access products of certified quality, and their protection against fraudulent imitations or reproductions is ensured. The pact is expected to enter into force at the beginning of next year, as soon as it is approved by the European Parliament and adopted by the European Council.
“This is a very important political step that we hope will have an impact for protected products with a geographical indication as a whole and for Alentejo Wines, in particular, since the Chinese market occupies the sixth place in the table of destinations for which we export our products the most ”, underlines Francisco Mateus, president of CVRA.
