CVRA in partnership with the Mediterranean Institute for Agriculture, Environment and Development (MED) organized on February 14, 2020, in the Building of Agricultural Regents, Polo da Mitra, another WASP workshop, this time dedicated to the issue of Climate Change and how the wine industry in general, and Alentejo in particular, can and should position itself in relation to the present and future.
The session had several expert speakers who presented papers on the topic, namely Professor Doctor Miguel Bastos Araújo from the University of Évora, who addressed the issue from a perspective of impacts on biodiversity and consequences for viticulture, and Professor Doctor Filipe Duarte Santos , from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, which addressed the issue of climate change in a more comprehensive manner, with a greater focus on the wine sector, particularly in the Alentejo region.
The session also featured three wine producers from the region, who shared examples of their own efforts to mitigate and adapt to climate change, namely Herdade do Peso (Sogrape group), Herdade do Mouchão and Esporão.
The session was sold out, and according to João Luís Barroso, PSVA coordinator «The mobilization in this session shows the sensitivity, interest and concern of Alentejo winegrowing in relation to the climatic emergency».
