The Postgraduate Course in Wine Tourism is the result of a partnership between the Polytechnic Institute of Portalegre (ESECS; ESAE; ESTG), the Portalegre Hotel and Tourism School (Turismo de Portugal), the Regional Tourism Entity of Alentejo and Ribatejo and the Wine Commission of the Alentejo Region (CVRA), with the support of the Alentejo Regional External Promotion Agency and the Alentejo Regional Coordination Commission (CCDR).
Framework:
Wine and tourism are sectors of high importance for the national economy and which can combine their products in the creation of differentiating experiences that contribute to the development of sustainable products with an impact on regional development.
Portugal already assumes a prominent international role in the production of wines, but it is not yet a world-renowned wine tourism destination. However, in recent years, several projects have emerged in this area with the ability to attract visitors to areas with lower tourist density and in low seasons.
As Enotourism is recognized as a priority for the country's tourism development, it is important to invest in the training of agents and in their training, combining knowledge in the areas of tourism and winemaking, which culminate in the creation of exclusive products aimed at market segments that value not only wine, but also the social and cultural identity of the regions where these projects are located. The link to regional gastronomy should be strengthened, in the sense of creating gastro/enological itineraries that are based on the exclusivity of the regions, the beauty of their landscapes and the authenticity of the experiences they offer.
The Alentejo is a consolidated region in terms of wine production and with several high quality wine tourism projects, stage of differentiating and sustainable experiences, which will be the subject of study visits within the scope of this course.
The b-learning methodology adopted for this course will enable face-to-face contact with the most sensorial components of the course and the on-site knowledge of emblematic wine tourism projects, along with distance classes and seminars after working hours.
In order for the attendance of this course to be an enriching moment of sharing experiences and knowledge, the training will be carried out by professors from the Polytechnic Institute of Portalegre but also by entrepreneurs and professionals with extensive experience and knowledge in the wine sector and regional and national Tourism. .
Goal:
- Provide trainees with knowledge about wine, tourism and wine tourism, which will allow them to develop innovative wine tourism projects;
- Complement the theoretical and practical knowledge of professionals who already develop their activities in the area of wine or wine tourism;
- Provide multidisciplinary training that contributes to the acquisition or deepening of knowledge in the areas of wine production, tourism, management, marketing, entrepreneurship, consumer behavior, the history and geography of wine regions.
- To promote knowledge of wine tourism in Portugal and in the world and its contribution to the development of destinations;
- Strengthen the link between wine and gastronomy in the creation of differentiating routes, events and projects based on the unique characteristics of the regions where they operate;
- Articulate the training of a more theoretical nature with practical training (sensory tests, seminars) and study visits that allow to know in loco innovative wine tourism projects;
- Equip trainees with skills to organize wine events and boost the tourist enjoyment of wine production spaces.

B-Learning operating regime: two weekly online classes after work hours and a monthly practical class/study visit (face-to-face regime)

Total Tuition – 900 Euros (can be paid in 9 monthly installments of 100 Euros each)
4 Scholarships (in the amount of the tuition fee) available for unemployed trainees
