The Alentejo Oenophile Confraternity presented the VI contest that awards the "Best Wines of Alentejo" at the Mar d'Ar Muralhas Hotel in Évora.

Scala Coeli - Touriga Nacional red wine 2015, Valcatrina by Santos Lima - ros 2017 and Vidigueira - Grande Escolha branco 2016 were distinguished with the Excellence award. There were also 17 Gold Medals and 7 Silver Medals
The trial jury evaluated a total of 121 wines: 29 whites, 5 rosés and 87 reds.
 
The Alentejo Oenophile Confraternity presented this Saturday, November 17, at the Mar d'Ar Muralhas Hotel in Évora, the sixth edition of the contest "Best Wines of Alentejo". This initiative intended, for another year, not only to highlight the quality of wine production that exists in the Alentejo, but also to make known to consumers the production of excellence that is made in the region.
 
The tender covered 121 wines produced in the Alentejo which were submitted by 50 producers. In this sixth edition, they evaluated wines: 29 whites, 5 rosés and 87 reds.
 
Of these 121 wines in competition the winners of the Excellence Award, attributed by category, were: Scala Coeli - Touriga Nacional tinto 2015, Fundação Eugénio de Almeida; Valcantrina by Santos Lima Rosé 2017, by Casa Santos Lima - Compª. das Vinhas, SA; and Vidigueira - Great White Choice 2016, from Adega Coop. of Vidigueira, Cuba and Alvito, CRL. Seventeen Gold Medals were handed out, including 6 white, 1 rosé and 10 reds. The Silver Medals were delivered to 11 references, all of them red wine.
 
Óscar Gato, Main Scout of the Alentejo Oenophile Confraternity, said, "The quality of the wines in the Contest was high, wines of different styles, with a balanced profile, with structure, elegance and longevity that allow diversity and choice of the consumer more enlightened and demanding, either for immediate consumption or to wait patiently for the optimum moment of consumption. Also noteworthy is the diversity of years of harvesting of the awarded wines, which proves the consistency of quality of Alentejo wines year after year. "
 
The trial jury was composed of members of the Alentejo Oenophile Confraternity, the CVRA, the Alentejo Regional Winegrowing Commission, the Portuguese Oenophile Association's tasters, the Portuguese Sommelier Association, the University of Évora and also speciality Journalists and Bloggers.
