Wines of Alentejo sold 1.2 million liters to the United States
The revenue represents about 4.7 million euros, and the data were released by the Alentejo Regional Winegrowing Commission (CVRA), when presenting to a group of North American journalists, the award-winning and unprecedented certification of the Wines of Alentejo Sustainability Program (WASP).
CVRA affirms that the presentation to the North American journalists seeks “the valorization and the increase of the notoriety of the Alentejo in what is one of the main importing countries of the region's wines and has already resulted in more than 2.6 million impressions, in the different news generated on the topic, both online and in print ”. The Commission also hopes that the action “will translate into an increase in sales to the American market, which is already the fourth largest importer of wine in the region”.
The presentation included hosts João Barroso, WASP coordinator, and Evan Goldstein, master sommelier and specialist in Alentejo wines, in addition to the presence of 45 representatives of the North American media. This event also featured five different wines, from five producers in the region, in order to illustrate some of the results of sustainable practices promoted and implemented under the WASP.
Francisco Mateus, chairman of CVRA's management, says that “we count on the American market, which comes to know Alentejo wines better and better, to react well when realizing that our region intends to be totally ecofriendly in terms of production. We believe that this new seal that we launched will become a sales driver for this market.
