The Wines of Alentejo Sustainability Program (WASP) was, this Monday, December 7th, awarded in the 11th edition of “The Drinks Business Green Awards”, prestigious international awards that distinguish the leadership of organizations or companies in the world of wine and spirits with regard to good environmental and sustainability practices.
“It is with great satisfaction that we announce one more distinction from WASP. This award fills us with pride due to the quality of the competition and its global character. It also reinforces our message that sustainability is not a fashion, but the new paradigm of the 21st century. In Alentejo we have the perfect notion that in order for us to continue producing wines of excellent quality, we have a responsibility to increase the capacity for regeneration and resilience of natural resources ”, stresses João Barroso, WASP coordinator.
WASP, which marked its 5th anniversary this year, is the responsibility of the Alentejo Regional Winegrowing Commission and was created with the aim of bringing sustainable production, as a whole, to the region's wine production, by working across and economic activity, the labor and social fabric and the environmental environment are integrated.
It was in the “The Amorim Sustainability Award” category for an association that PSVA was distinguished, competing with the “International Wineries for Climate Change” project and also with the “Wines of Great Britain”.
With this new distinction, WASP ends the year 2020 with a flourish, already counting eight awards, among which stand out the European Business Promotion Awards, an initiative of the European Commission and coordinated, in Portugal, by IAPMEI, the receipt of the title of European Ambassador for Rural Innovation by the LIAISON project, a European Innovation Partnership for Agricultural Productivity and Sustainability launched by the European Commission, or the “2019 Initiative of the Year”, by the Grandes Escolhas Awards, organized by the magazine with the same name.
