Wines of Alentejo Sustainability Program voted Best of the Year
The Wines of Alentejo Sustainability Program (WASP) continues to be recognized internationally and nationally. This time it was Revista de Vinhos to award the project, pioneer in Portugal, as the best of the year in the Innovation / Research category, during the “Best of the Year 2019” gala.
For Francisco Mateus, president of CVRA, “the award given by Revista de Vinhos in the Innovation / Research category shows the importance of this program not only for the Alentejo wines, but for the entire wine sector in Portugal. We want to be an example inside and outside, without forgetting the responsibility and demands that all these prizes entail ”.
“The Wines of Alentejo Sustainability Program is unique in our country and has inspired those who know it to start introducing sustainability criteria and good practices in wine production. We have more and more members putting into practice our sustainability criteria and at the same time raising the quality of the wine in our region ”, says João Luís Barroso, WASP coordinator.
The Wines of Alentejo Sustainability Program has 171 criteria, divided into 18 chapters. Currently, 395 members are part of the PSVA, representing an area of 8 921 hectares and 76 million liters of PDO & Regional wine.
