Altas Quintas was born of an obsession for making Alentejo wines with unusual characteristics designed for demanding wine lovers. The goal is not just to create great wines but wines that reflect our obsession to surprise our consumers, whilst offering a taste that only a great wine can offer. Altas Quintas stands out, first of all, due to its location – a plateau at 600 metres above sea level in the heart of the Alentejo.
This location and its mesoclimate provide an unequalled Terroir that you can taste in the wine. But in order to produce nothing less than great wines, this Terroir must be matched by our obsession. This obsession to create something unique drives us to make no concessions in the vineyards to achieve the highest quality grapes possible.
To do so, we drastically reduce production. More than 70% of the grape clusters are removed shortly after véraison so that those remaining gain additional structure and quality. We only produce 3,500 litres/hectare.
Red wines fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled french oak casks from Seguin Moreau cooperage. Barrels for maturation are only used for three years. Our technical winemaking team is headed by the owner, João Lourenço.
Dare to try the difference. Taste it and let us know.
