Casa Clara created in 2000 under the name “Monte da Capela” is a wine project of excellence in the heart of Alentejo, based on the history and legacy of the Roque do Vale family, the result of a history of generations linked to the world of wines and the Alentejo. We aim to produce wines and oils based on authenticity, quality and sustainability.
Properties
We are in two properties in the heart of the Alentejo. Herdade da Capela is a 56.9-hectare property, located in the Moura sub-region, on the left bank of the Guadiana. It is almost entirely planted with vines, with the most emblematic grape varieties in the Alentejo region.
Quinta de D. Maria is located in the Vidigueira sub-region next to Alqueva and was recently acquired by the family. The property has 231 hectares, with 26 hectares of vineyards planted with the typical grape varieties of that region and 40 hectares of olive groves, the remainder being dedicated to montados.
Our wines and oils
Our wines are the result of a true passion for wine, years of experience and a deep knowledge of the region.
Supported by this long wine tradition, in addition to the emblematic brands Herdade da Capela and Monte da Capela, created by winemaker Alexandra Mendes, we recently created a new brand, Ermo, designed by winemaker Rita Ferreira Marques. All these wines condense what we are and what we do best.
In addition to these main lines, which unfold in wines for different market segments, we develop from our grapes, and from the experience and sensitivity of our winemakers, exclusive wines, made to measure for each challenge.
From the olives of our olive trees at Quinta de D. Maria we produce olive oil. It will always be a limited production, obtained exclusively from the native varieties existing in our olive grove over 25 years old, grown according to sustainable production methods and with respect for the Alentejo tradition.
Wine Tourism
The Casa Clara project will soon be completed with a wine tourism aspect that will unite landscape, architecture and culture. The project will include a rural hotel and an internship cellar and will be signed by the renowned architect Thiago Bernardes, from the Bernardes Arquitetura studio.
