Herdade da Fonte Coberta is located 5 km south of Évora, in one of the most important winegrowing regions of Portugal – the Alentejo.
The estate spreads over 220 hectares, approximately 170 of which under vine. The first vines were planted in 2003 and ever since, considerable investment has been made both in the estate –including an efficient drip irrigation system – and the winery, which is now equipped with the most advanced technology. This modern winery was built in total harmony with the vineyards and surrounding area and has 2,600 m2 between the administrative offices, laboratory, winemaking and bottling facilities, and areas for ageing in oak barrels and in bottle.
Annual production is projected to reach 200,000 litres of white wine and 850,000 litres of red wine when full capacity is reached. The goal is to tap into the all important international export markets. Some Herdade da Fonte Coberta wines can already be found in Europe, China, Angola and the Ivory Coast.
The first Herdade da Fonte Coberta wine, Ouro do Monte, was released in 2006 (from the 2005 harvest).
Since 2010 our Bolota Dourada Colheita Seleccionada (red), Herdade da Fonte Coberta Reserva (red) and the Herdade da Fonte Coberta Reserva (white) have won a collection of national and international wine competitions, including the 2013 gold medal attributed to our Bolota Dourada Colheita Seleccionada 2011 red at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles. Silver and bronze medals, respectively, were received by the Herdade da Fonte Coberta Reserva 2008 red and the Herdade da Fonte Coberta Reserva 2011 white at the International Wine & Spirit Competition.
