The wine RISO de Sousa Otto & Friends (“The laughter of Sousa Otto & Friends”) is made at the Herdade do Vau. The name RISO (laughter) was intended to be much more than the name of a wine. It is supposed to announce an attitude. A way of life! Positive, happy, unconventional, with both a spirit of sharing and a sense of time…
Herdade do Vau defines a new frontier of the Alentejo wine region. The estate lies fifteen minutes southeast of Beja, on the banks of the Guadiana River. This is an unequalled, magical spot. A small vineyard of 5.5 hectares is planted on poor soils, facing north, east and west with Touriga Nacional, Syrah, Alfrocheiro and Sousão grapes (the latter being planted for the first time in the Alentejo).
Riso wine is a sign of what can be done on this new frontier. It’s an elegant wine, with intense, complex aromas and a long, balanced finish.
The prime location and wonderful facilities are prepared to welcome visitors as a part of a wine tourism programme where we will be able to organise cultural and business events.
