Herdade Papa Leite is situated in the heart of Alentejo, in Alter do Chão.
Its origin dates back to the XVII Century and on it grew cork oak, holm oak , olive trees , crops and Alentejo cattle. Nowadays, with the introduction of Aberdeen –Angus cattle, and the cultivation of olive groves and vines, the property produces meat, olive oil and wine, all of excellent quality.
Herdade Papa Leite Wines result from the dream of wine producer Filipe Barreiros Cardoso, after years of tastings and research worldwide, looking for new ideas, to make different wines for great connoisseurs, and not just great wines. A combination between knowledge and the will to always do better.
We believe that the vine is where it all begins.
The micro climate of Northeast Alentejo and the characteristics of the soil, create unique Terroir conditions, which are reflected on the taste and aroma of the wines we produce.
The presence of clay, accumulated at a certain depth, together with the slight incline of the hill where the vine is planted, allow for good drainage. The excellent solar exposure, sunrise to sunset, guarantees a good ripening of the grape.
For white wines, we selected the grape varieties Viognier, Chenin Blanc, Semillon and Moscatel. For the red wines Cabernet, Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot.
