History

Monte da Bica is more than just a wine project. It is a tale of love, tradition and commitment, passed down generation after generation. A story that resonates in every single bottle of wine we produce.
The Pinto Gouveias’ enduring fondness for wine has turned into a legacy passed on to current owner Manuela Pinto Gouveia. Her late father, Alberto Pinto Gouveia, left behind a 5-hectare family vineyard dedicated to the production of select, small-batched wines. Also inherited were the fervor going into the production of every single bottle of Monte da Bica wines, the rigorous attention to detail, the profound affection for the land and an overall commitment to excellence.

The Wines and Vines

Authentic, aromatic, buttery, soft, full-bodied, with a long-lasting texture and finish, our wines aspire to be remembered by true connoisseurs. Every single bottle is an invitation to special moments and endless conversations happening around a table.
Our vineyards are strategically located in Lavre, an area known for its stunning landscapes and favorable climate, fashioning the ideal conditions for our Monte da Bica wines. This unique terroir, characterized by the clay to sand transition soils, distinctive of this end of the Alentejo region, forms an exceptional environment for maturation with great aromatic expression and freshness retention.

Agroforestry

Monte da Bica is a true natural paradise, with around 350 hectares, where forest and agriculture harmoniously coexist. The property is enriched by a majestic cork oak forest (montado), where century-old cork oaks provide refreshing shade and a vital ecosystem for a multiplicity of species. Freely roaming sheep play a crucial role in maintaining environmental balance. A dam on the property ensures a constant water supply, essential for crop irrigation and animal welfare.

At Monte da Bica, each element of the forest and agriculture is carefully managed to foster harmony between sustainable farming and nature preservation, ensuring high-quality products while protecting the environment.
