PLC – Companhia de Vinhos do Alandroal, Lda. was established in 2000 by Paolo Fiuza Nigra, Luís Bulhão Martins and Carlos Portas. Their initials were brought together to provide the name of the business, PLC.
On the rolling Alentejo plains between Alandroal and Portalegre, this company joins 100 hectares of vineyard on schistose soils where indigenous and other grape varieties yield wine of excellent quality.
PLC bottled its first wine in 2001 under the label Pontual, Touriga Nacional/Trincadeira Preta. The following years have witnessed the release of Pontual Syrah, Pontual Reserva, Pontual White, Pontual Colheita and the new label Desigual (red and white).
100 hectares of vineyards on schistose soils between Alandroal and Portalegre were carefully chosen to optimise the quality of the grapes and the wine.
Varieties:
Whites: Antão Vaz, Arinto, Roupeiro, Verdelho, Perrum.
Reds: Touriga Nacional, Syrah, Trincadeira, Aragonez, Alicante Bouschet and Cabernet Sauvignon.
We believe that top quality wines are born in the vineyard. The grapes are carefully selected according to their health and maturity. All necessary care is taken during harvest and vinification to preserve their quality and their potential.
White wines are made in stainless steel vats. Grapes are fully destemmed and lightly pressed in small quantities at a time. Fermentation takes place at low temperatures (13ºC to 15ºC) until complete. Sedimentation occurs at 7ºC to 10ºC.
Red wines are vinified in stainless steel lagares (low tanks). Grapes are fully destemmed and a pre-fermentation maceration takes place for 1 to 2 days. Wines are then fermented at a controlled temperature of 25ºC. The wine is matured in either American or French oak barrels, depending on the grape variety and the wine.
