In the county of Arraiolos, just an hour from Lisbon, lies Monte da Ravasqueira. This typical Alentejo estate, which has been in the José de Mello family for generations, encompasses cork oak forests and vineyards that are farmed and managed by the company Sociedade Agrícola D. Diniz, S.A.
Ideal geological and climate conditions allow Monte da Ravasqueira to produce the best possible Alentejo wine. Considerable investments have been made planting vines and installing modern winemaking equipment, weather stations and plant-health facilities. Tourism facilities have also been built.
In addition to making quality wine, Monte da Ravasqueira also cultivates olives and cork, raises cattle and Lusitanian horses, and produces honey and olive oil.
Monte da Ravasqueira is made up of 11 vineyard blocks located in differing parts of the estate, according to the French concept of terroir. The vineyard block Vinha do Monte, for example, is the starting point for guided tours, where the visitors learn about the grapes, soil, climate, techniques and the harvest. It is located on a slope running down to a small stream, whilst the vineyard block Vinha das Romãs is located in a former pomegranate field. The geological study to select the best sites and the most appropriate grape varieties began in 1998 and counted on the expertise of top national and international specialists.
Inspired by the California Napa Valley wineries, Monte da Ribeira is equipped with the latest possible technology and is one of the most up-to-date and highly functional wineries in the country. It is aided by software developed on site.
The winery also has meeting and tasting rooms overlooking the temperature and humidity controlled cellar where visitors can learn about the ageing of wine in French oak barrels.
The surrounding area and its infrastructures allow you to enjoy leisure activities, business events, business meetings, conferences, team building actions and lunches, among other initiatives. One of the pillars of the Monte is the imposing cellar, where the wines that are the fruit of the inspiration of our winemakers’ rest. Another equally strong pillar is the Private Horse Coach Museum, of different era’s and styles, which is also a way of honoring the creation of Lusitano Horses so deeply rooted in our culture.
