Concept

Clairvoyant without being imposing, short on words and long on thoughts, matching the personality of the family patriarch who inspired this Bica Blend. This year's best French and American oak barrels have come together to pay tribute to the one who gave them birth.

“Joy in departure, as longing is for those who remain.”

In the Vineyard

Located in Lavre and 8 years old (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot) and 7 years old (Alicante Bouschet).

The Mediterranean climate provides a high temperature range and the transitional transition soils, from clay to sand, at this end of the Alentejo region mean that, despite its low productivity standards, conditions are created for a ripening of outstanding aromatic expression and freshness retention.

Manual harvesting from this plot, transported to the winery in small 12 kg boxes.
Productivity: 5000kg/Ha.

In the Cellar

Selected bunches undergo gravity-fed fermentation in small presses at controlled temperatures for 7 to 10 days. Alcoholic fermentation is then followed by malolactic fermentation for approximately 15 days. After pressing, all the wine goes into French and American oak barrels.

Ageing

24 months in French and American oak barrels and 8 months in bottle.

Winemaker's Note

A traditional Calda Bordalesa (Bordelaise) tainted with the best of Alentejo, the Alicante da Bica. Its subtly spicy aroma gives way to a palate of structured yet polished tannins, enveloping dark fruits with a hint of tobacco box.
